Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
We Are the America We Serve
Every two seconds, a TeamHealth clinician cares for a patient, and while every patient is different, the quality of care they receive shouldn’t be. With more than 15,000 clinicians practicing across 48 states and hundreds of communities, diversity is a constant we embrace.
As a physician-led, patient-focused healthcare company, providing the highest-quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) prepares our clinicians to approach every patient encounter with empathy and awareness, ensuring patients feel safe, respected and valued.
Our Culture
At TeamHealth, we believe a strong foundation of DEI throughout the organization enriches our culture, improves clinical practice, enhances patient experiences and supports clinician wellness. We foster a culture of safety and acceptance for all employees and patients. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment.
We seek out diverse perspectives around the decision-making table so inclusive choices can be made. We believe change begins with knowledge. We are committed to the continual education of our associates and to amplifying stories and content to the industry.
Leading the Way
TeamHealth leaders work hand-in-hand with our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee to champion the facilitation, adoption and continued evolution of DEI initiatives within daily clinical practice, patient experience and business and administrative operations. They are encouraged to thoughtfully conduct conversations around the importance of DEI within our culture and the meaningful impact it has on our company and associates.
Four DEI subcommittees have been individually designed to affect universal change to the core of our operations, behaviors and mindsets:
- Benchmarking: Researching and reporting on minority groups in the TeamHealth workforce and comparing against industry and community norms
- Education: Developing materials and initiatives that advance DEI thoughts in our organization
- Patient Experience: Addressing ways DEI information can be used in patient care settings
- Communication and Change Management: Assisting the other committees in sharing their work, recognizing DEI holidays internally and externally and considering next steps for the company
Recognizing Implicit Bias in Healthcare Podcast
Implicit bias in healthcare is a critical area that demands our collective attention. In this Beyond Clinical Medicine podcast, Dr. Rob Strauss welcomes guests Dr. Stan Thompson with Dr. Khadeja Haye for a two-part series discussing when implicit bias begins, what it is and recognizing it in all aspects of healthcare.
Resource Groups
TeamHealth respects the individual needs, views and potential of all our team members. Our resource groups aim to provide unifying networks within the company offering members support, resources and professional development opportunities. We believe resource groups are essential to increase awareness and influence change.
We currently offer four resource groups: Women in Leadership, Veterans Resource Group, LGBTQ+ Resource Group and Black Cultural Resource Group. Additional resource groups are currently in development, and we will continue to grow our offerings.
Women in Leadership
The Women in Leadership Resource Group promotes the recruitment and retention of women at all associate levels. Its members aim to raise the voice of women within the organization and industry, influence the promotion of more women to leadership positions and develop future women-leaders.
Veterans Resource Group
The Veterans Resource Group was established to honor TeamHealth employees who currently serve or previously served in the military. Members aid in the employment of other veterans by recruiting them to TeamHealth and supporting them in the transition from military service to civilian employment.
LGBTQ+ Resource Group
The LGBTQ+ Resource Group seeks to foster inclusion, acceptance and equality while cultivating and promoting a welcoming and safe workplace for our LGBTQ+ associates, allies and TeamHealth at large to ensure all voices are represented.
Black Cultural Resource Group
The Black Cultural Resource Group is an affinity group whose focus is to better the experience and placement of Black colleagues throughout all levels of the TeamHealth organization and to advocate for equity for the Black community at large.
