TeamHealth Helps Build a Habitat House

In 2019, TeamHealth partnered with several other healthcare organizations in the Knoxville area to build a Habitat house for a deserving family in the local community. Our TeamHealth associates along with those at Abercrombie Radiology, Gastrointestinal Associates, Ortho Tennessee, Premier Surgical, Tennessee Cancer Specialists and Realty Trust Group contributed to the project.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian ministry that collaborates with all beliefs. Since 1985, Knoxville Habitat has been an affiliate of Habitat International and believes every one of us deserves a decent and affordable place to call home. They are dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing. Habitat and volunteers build simple, affordable housing for people in need, who purchase the homes through a 0% interest mortgage over a period of 25 to 30 years. In 2019, Knoxville Habitat built 19 homes, and in 2020 hope to build another 15 homes. Earlier last month they were also named the 2020 TeamHealth Cares charity contest-winning charity for which they received a $10,000 donation prize!

TeamHealth’s contribution to this 2019 group build effort came from both monetary donations and volunteer time. The monetary portion was a combination of both employee-raised funds and company dollars for our portion of the building costs.

The build started in November 2019, with our group of organizations giving a total of $42,000. Each Knoxville TeamHealth office held activities where associates participated locally to fundraise for this effort. The Brookview office hosted “Minute to Win It” games in August and a fall festival in September that featured fun games including an executive dunk tank to raise money for the cause.

Our volunteer associates participated in two days of building to set trusses, deck the roof and install vinyl siding on the new home. Cody Dobbs, TeamHealth Human Resource Representative in the HR Service Center said of his volunteer time, “My first experience with a Habitat for Humanity build was so moving and out of this world rewarding. Being able to come together as a company and community along with all different walks of life is an awesome experience. TeamHealth provides great opportunities for employees to get involved in their community to help families, individuals all along while promoting health team-building exercises. I had such an amazing time doing something rewarding for a family in my own community and getting to build positive and new relationships with my TeamHealth co-workers. I look forward to another build in 2020!”

Habitat will hand over the keys to its new owners on Saturday, February 22, 2020. You can watch our video below to see more from our volunteers and about their build experience!
