Integrated Services allow New Hospital to Open from Day One with Fully Operational Emergency and Inpatient Coverage

White Papers

A brand-new and much-anticipated facility in South Carolina opened in late 2022. After the COVID-19 pandemic halted construction, the health system’s leadership was eager for a grand opening that provided seamless care to the community. Rising to the call, TeamHealth worked with system and facility leadership to build a collaborative and successful plan to open on day one with a fully staffed and integrated services for the emergency department, hospitalist program and ICU.

Integrated Services for Successful Launch

The facility was long-awaited by the community. In 2006, the system received Certificate of Need approval to build the 100-bed facility in the South Carolina community, which had seen steady population growth through the years. However, what followed was a decade of legal battles and stumbling blocks that halted construction. When construction finally began, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, further delaying the groundbreaking. Finally, in 2021, construction began, and the facility opened in September 2022.

As an existing partner at the close-by 300-bed hospital and the local off-site emergency department, the system turned to TeamHealth to staff its emergency, hospitalist and intensivist departments. The challenge was set: have a day-one start with fully operational emergency and inpatient services after the long anticipation and planning.
