Volunteer Ministry Center: Our 2019 #TeamHealthCares Winner

Throughout December 2018, TeamHealth celebrated the spirit of the giving season with our annual #TeamHealthCares voting contest.

We collaborated with Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, Volunteer Ministry Center, and the Boys & Girls Club of America and asked our social media audience to visit the TeamHealth Cares website to vote for the organization of their choice to receive a $10,000 donation from TeamHealth. Voting was close, and our 2019 #TeamHealthCares charity contest winner was the Volunteer Ministry Center.

The Volunteer Ministry Center (VMC) is a non-profit organization that offers specialized services to individuals experiencing homelessness and those within the community who are in crisis. VMC’s programs support its two-fold mission of facilitating permanent supportive housing for those who are homeless and providing services to prevent homelessness.

VMC operates four main programs: The VMC Resource Center, The Bush Family Refuge, Minvilla Manor, and The VMC Dental Clinic. The goal for all clients is housing. Utilizing case management and the “Housing First” approach to ending homelessness, VMC assists individuals into permanent, supportive housing and provides the resources necessary to maintain housing.

We recently visited the Volunteer Ministry Center, located in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, to see how they are using the money to improve the lives of their clients, and we found out they were able to put it to excellent use by hiring a much-needed housing specialist.

Kate Turner, VMC’s new housing specialist, whose role is centered on the concept of helping clients obtain permanent housing.

I hope that when someone meets with me, they take away—well, first, I hope that they come to realize that there is an option for them. There’s an option available always to someone. I really want them to feel heard and as a person.”

TeamHealth’s passion for helping others isn’t just our culture—it’s everything we do. We believe giving back creates better experiences for everyone. It’s about building team unity and creating a positive impact in the communities we serve. Watch our video below to learn more about their great work!
