Beyond Clinical Medicine Episode 9: Addressing the Opioid Crisis

Listen in on conversations with leading clinicians across the country that cover all the things they don’t teach you in residency in our new podcast Beyond Clinical Medicine.

The misuse and addiction to opioids have devastating consequences for our communities and has become a serious national crisis.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, every day in the U.S. more than 130 people die from an opioid overdose. Today on the #BeyondClinicalMedicine podcast, Dr. Rob Strauss dives into this important topic with a physician who has helped meet the issue head-on through the implementation of recovery coaching programs to assist patients in fighting opioid addiction.

TeamHealth’s Dr. Brandt Williamson, Emergency Medicine physician at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia, discusses the implementation of this innovative program and the positive impacts it has made in this community. Currently, 11% of hospitals use recovery coaches to assist patients in fighting opioid addiction. Listen to this powerful conversation and share this podcast with other providers who may benefit from hearing it.
