True to its name, Lakewood is nestled among a dozen large and small lakes and massive Sequoias and redwoods in the western sector of the state. With this wealth of lakes comes numerous boating and rowing destinations, or you may prefer a nature walk to watch wildlife such as the woodland caribou or bison that can be seen on the five miles of trail found at Northwest Trek. Lakewood takes pride in its nationally acclaimed estate garden, Lakewold Gardens. The ideal location of Lakewood makes it a convenient base for dozens of destinations in western Washington. Take a quick trip to Mt. Rainier National Park to see the highest mountain in Washington State as well as 26 major glaciers, 34 waterfalls, 62 lakes, and 600-year-old forests. And getting to Lakewood could not be easier. Just go 30 miles south of Seattle on Interstate 5; Lakewood is near the southern end of Puget Sound. Tacoma is just north of Lakewood, and the state capital of Olympia is just 25 miles south.
