Leading the Future of APC Excellence
Advanced practice clinicians (APCs) are essential to delivering exceptional patient care across TeamHealth, bringing clinical expertise, collaboration, and compassionate care to patients in every setting we serve. Supporting their growth, well-being, and professional development remains a key priority—and the Advanced Practice Clinician Council (APCC) plays an important role in ensuring APCs have a voice in shaping that future.
As the APCC welcomes its new chair, Kim Metcalf, Regional APC Director, she shares her vision for the council, the priorities guiding its work in the year ahead, and how TeamHealth continues to invest in the success of its APCs.
Meet the new council chair
Hi! My name is Kim Metcalf, and I am honored to serve as a Regional APC Director at TeamHealth. As a nurse practitioner and advocate for advanced practice clinicians, I am committed to supporting our APCs, fostering collaboration, and helping create opportunities for growth and excellence across our organization.
What is the history and mission of the Advanced Practice Clinician Council (APCC)?
Founded in 2012 under the leadership of TeamHealth Co-Founder and President of Practice Development, Dr. Randal Dabbs, the APCC was created to ensure APCs had a voice in shaping the future of TeamHealth. Since then, the council has evolved into a diverse, enterprise-wide body representing APCs from every service line across the organization. Through advocacy, collaboration, and strategic leadership, the APCC advances initiatives that support APC integration, professional development, and engagement while fostering a culture where APCs can thrive and grow throughout their careers.
What are the APCC’s goals and focus areas for the coming year?
The APCC’s goals for the coming year are centered on enhancing the overall APC experience by improving satisfaction, engagement, retention, and professional development opportunities. A key area of focus is addressing microstress and fostering a culture that supports APC well-being and long-term success. In alignment with TeamHealth’s strategic priorities, the APCC will continue to champion initiatives that strengthen the APC experience across all service lines while advancing opportunities for growth an connection.
How does TeamHealth support and value its advanced practice clinicians?
TeamHealth demonstrates its commitment to APCs by investing in their professional growth, leadership development, and long-term career success. Through robust educational offerings, clinical skill-building opportunities, mentorship programs, and leadership pathways, APCs are supported at every stage of their careers. TeamHealth is committed to creating an environment where APCs can leave work tired, not depleted; challenged, but not overwhelmed; and proud, not just productive. By fostering engagement, well-being, and opportunities for advancement, TeamHealth empowers APCs to grow their expertise, develop as leaders, and make meaningful contributions to patient care and organizational success.
What are you looking forward to for the council this year?
I’m excited about the opportunities to leverage AI and other innovative solutions to reduce documentation burden, streamline inefficient workflows, and allow APCs to spend more time focused on patient care. I’m also encouraged by the growing awareness of microstress and its cumulative impact on clinician well-being. This year, I look forward to partnering with leaders across TeamHealth to identify practical solutions that improve the day-to-day APC experience and support long-term professional fulfillment. Ultimately, our goal is to create an environment where APCs can thrive, grow, and find greater meaning and satisfaction in their work.
Advancing APC Leadership and Impact
Looking into the future, I remain committed to supporting our advanced practice clinicians and advancing TeamHealth’s commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration, and exceptional patient care. By investing in the growth and development of our APCs, fostering strong partnerships across care teams, and creating opportunities for mentorship and leadership, we can continue to strengthen the impact APCs have across our organization.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. I look forward to working alongside our clinicians and leaders as we continue delivering exceptional care during life’s pivotal moments.
