The other benefit is that when you find a site and community with which you fall in love, you can make that your home. As a Special Operations physician, you have the flexibility to work with TeamHealth to convert to a full-time permanent position at that site if available. When working as a locum physician, the prohibitive buyout clause in the standard contract can keep you from returning to do the same for years.
What’s required of Special Operations physicians?
What you need to be is an elite physician. We are looking for the best physicians to represent a company who has an excellent reputation in the medical community. The main requirements are that you are board-certified and have a clean background. Rapid deployment and credentialing are often required, so having no restrictions or complications make deploying you to a site much more fluid. We also prefer physicians with critical care experience and the ability to perform procedures because of the varying needs of our hospital partners.
Members of the Special Operations team are in a class by themselves. They give feedback directly to leadership who gives additional consideration to their opinion. They have special educational opportunities, group meetings, and opportunities for leadership advancement. Physicians are deployed to high-performing sites with census management issues, contract retention concerns or to new hospital medicine startups as experts in the field.
