Celebrating National Doctors’ Day 2022

Randal Dabbs, MD, Co-Founder, President, Practice Development

Whether you “accidentally” chose to be a physician, or you feel you were chosen by a higher power, you were given a gift to be an angel to every person who comes to you for medical care.  Whatever road led you to this point, we are thankful that you chose to serve your patients as a doctor. There are no greater gifts than those given to physicians to care for the medical and emotional needs of patients during these difficult times.

But, it does not come without a cost. In the past few weeks, two of my closest friends, who I consider to be great physicians and even better leaders, called and told me they were vacating their leadership roles or leaving medicine altogether. These are both terrible losses just at the time when it feels like we have hit rock bottom and are on our way out of this pandemic nightmare. As Charles Dickens wrote in A Tale of Two Cities, “… It was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” Shouldn’t we be celebrating our rise from the ashes of COVID-19 instead of screaming “Enough”? Perhaps, but each of you has endured your own set of difficult issues and knows your own limitations.

Whether your gift is a blessing or a burden depends on your perspective of the forecast—are we still in our “winter of despair” or are we emerging into the “spring of hope”? Regardless, your gift is our gift, and is also a gift to every person you have cared for and will continue to care for as we move closer to a state of normalcy.

National Doctors’ Day 2022

Thank you for the tremendous sacrifices you make every day. We hope you recognize the arrival of the daffodils and can appreciate your opportunity to make a difference in so many people’s lives. Your career choice to be a physician was no accident. Embrace your gift as a blessing, and feel empowered by the love and thankfulness of those you serve. We are proud to celebrate you on National Doctors’ Day 2022.
