Suicide Prevention

At TeamHealth, we encourage physicians, advanced practice clinicians and all those who support the practice of medicine to make their mental health and well-being a priority.

In 2023, 53% of physicians reported feeling burnt out and 23% reported feeling depressed according to Medscape’s latest Physician Burnout and Depression Report, and each year, 300-400 clinicians die by suicide. That is roughly one doctor dying every day which is nearly double the rate of the general population.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and TeamHealth is actively working to combat the high rate of suicide and burnout among clinicians by increasing awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding seeking treatment for depression and substance abuse. We are committed to offering resources to aid anyone who is struggling. We are proud to join the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to promote awareness for this very sensitive but vital topic for healthcare workers across the country.

We understand there are situations and circumstances that are difficult to face alone. If you are feeling hopeless, worn down or burnt out, help is available: Call 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources and best practices for professionals. Text and call support are available at 988. To speak with a Spanish counselor, press two, and to text with a Spanish counselor, text AYUDA to 988. The Lifeline also offers a chat feature in English and Spanish.
