Happy Valley is sometimes used as a colloquialism for the State College area. Since Lewistown is considered a bedroom community of State College, many people live in this area and commute. Sperling's Best Places has ranked State College the safest small city in America, and Rolling Stone magazine gave the city honorable mention as one of the best music scenes in the country. There are dozens of restaurants and bars in town, most of which are located downtown. While State College is most known for Penn State Nittany Lions football and ice hockey, it is also home to the State College Spikes, a minor league baseball team. There are festivals and award-winning wineries, antique shops and lots of outdoor activities.
