Physician Assistant

Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant in Georgetown, Texas

Team Health is excited to announce a new Jump Start program targeted toward new physician assistant graduates to train and work in the emergency department (ED). At the end of the end of 4 months, each candidate will have a basic understanding of:
1. Basic procedures including but not limited to laceration repair, I&D, basic joint reductions, foreign body removal
2. Stabilization and management of patients ESI level 2-5
3. Performing rapid medical examinations and identifying emergent conditions
4. Teamwork between advanced practice clinicians, supervising physicians, hospitalists and various specialists in the management of patients
5. Efficient and safe disposition of patients within goal LOS (<60 minutes) for all patients ESI level 4 and 5

Clinical Training: advanced practice clinicians (APC) in the Jump Start Program will gradually gain responsibility and autonomy. All shifts will be worked under the supervision of a board certified/board eligible emergency medicine physician.

Month 1: The APC will spend 40 hours orienting with the lead advanced practice clinicians at South Austin Medical Center, North Austin Medical Center, St. David's Children's Hospital, Round Rock Medical Center and Georgetown Hospital, reviewing shift responsibilities and becoming familiar with the documenting system. The APC will be assigned 8 shadow shifts with an attending physician, evaluating and documenting on 6 patients per shift. After completing orientation, the APC will work a minimum of 50 hours as a practicing APC at sites to be determined by the Jump Start Program Director.

Months 2-4: The APC will be assigned 8 shadow shifts with an attending physician and a minimum of 80 hours per month as a practicing APC at sites to be determined by the Jump Start Program Director.

Month 5: The APC will transition to a full-time position with an assigned base hospital. Facility assignment will be based on staffing needs. The initial shifts will be scheduled with the facility's lead APC.

Application Requirements:
- Graduation from either an ARC-PA or CCNE accredited program
- NCCPA certification or PANCE eligible / APRN certification or eligible
- Texas state licensure or eligibility
- DEA licensure or eligibility
- Personal interview

All Jump Start Program APCs must be licensed and boarded prior to program entry and admission is contingent on the fellow obtaining hospital credentials from the St. David's HealthCare System.
