Beyond Clinical Medicine Episode 18: Be Prepared for Coronavirus

As the coronavirus continues to evolve and make headlines, this Beyond Clinical Medicine podcast shares an important discussion and perspective to assist all medical providers and teams in the face of this global outbreak. TeamHealth’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jody Crane, interviews Dr. John Sullivan, Facility Medical Director, St. Alexius Medical Center in the Chicago area. Dr. Sullivan shares his unique perspective after his emergency department (ED) received the second case of coronavirus in the United States. In this interview, he walks us through the case as it presented to the primary care office, the ED and hospital admission. He provides a valuable perspective on coordination with the health department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and his hospital administration. Dr. Sullivan also provides insight into best practices in personal protective equipment and isolation in this rapidly evolving outbreak. Finally, he discusses planning and coordinating referrals between the community healthcare providers and his multi-hospital system. Please listen and share this podcast on how to be prepared for the coronavirus with other clinical providers.
