Multidisciplinary Collaboration for Positive Change in Acute and Inpatient Care
Two Florida hospitals faced issues with their emergency department (ED) metrics, and in 2025 engaged TeamHealth, as a trusted partner in another facility within the health system and as partners in both facilities’ Hospital Medicine programs, to turn the program around and improve performance. Long patient holds and high length of stay (LOS) were impacting left-without-being-seen (LWBS) rates, which was also negatively impacting patient experience. The Emergency Medicine start-up focused on positive change. Better integration between the hospitalists and ED teams was a critical first step in creating change.
Key Improvements:
● Door-to-doc (D2D) times improved at both facilities, from 18 to 11 minutes and 24 to 12 minutes within 8 months of go live
● WOR decreased at both facilities, from 3.21 to 1.75 and 3.14 to 2.07 within 8 months of go live
● LOS and observation rates reduced, with LOS now at 1.41 within 8 months of go live
● Patient experience scores for both teams improved, with the ED team specifically showing improvements from 61% to 73% at one facility and 66% to 74% at the other within 8 months of go live
● C-suite is satisfied and actively engaging in the collaborative and ongoing project
