Advocacy in Action

NEMPAC Activity

ACEP staff attended a health care industry fundraising event for the Blue Dog Coalition this week. Blue Dog Democrats are a group of 44 conservative to moderate members of the Democratic party in the House of Representatives. In the 2006 elections, Blue Dog candidates such as Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC) and Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-IN) were elected in conservative-leaning districts, upending years of Republican dominance in these districts.

Often, the group is instrumental in striking a balance between liberal and conservative ideas and is expected to play a significant role in the development of health care policy in the 110th Congress. During the reception, ACEP had the opportunity to speak with many Coalition members regarding the re-introduction of the “Access to Emergency Medical Services Act.”
