Medical Liability Reform (MLR) bill sponsors, Sen. Mark Norris (R-Collierville) and Rep. Doug Overbey (R - Maryville) drafted new amendatory language for the MLR bill this week.

Attention Tennessee Physicians
If you are a constituent of any of these legislators, please call them ASAP and let them know that deleting "non-economic caps" will not be true tort reform and will do nothing to ease the Medical Malpractice crisis in Tennessee. It is the caps which reduce the rampant premiums. There should be caps for business liability as well. This is the best chance Tennesee has had to mold a MLR bill, but we need caps. Legislative Update: Senate Rejects Medical Care Access Protection Act (S. 22) and Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies Act (S. 23)
The Senate yesterday was unable to muster the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture and permit a vote on two Republican-sponsored bills that would limit non-economic damages in medical liability cases. The votes on the Medical Care Access Protection Act (S. 22) and Healthy Mothers and Healthy Babies Act (S. 23) failed by 48-42 and 49-44, respectively.
