TeamHealth Announces Nine New Contracts in Q1 2009

(KNOXVILLE, Tenn.) April 14, 2009 –TeamHealth, the nation’s largest provider of hospital-based clinical outsourcing, announced that it initiated staffing and management services for nine hospitals during first quarter 2009, following a strong year of growth in 2008.

This year’s new contracts represent eight emergency departments (EDs) and one hospital medicine program in seven states. TeamHealth will provide ED staffing and management services to:

  • Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in Utica, N.Y.;
  • Haywood Regional Medical Center in Clyde, N.C.;
  • Henry County Medical Center in Paris, Tenn.;
  • King's Daughters' Hospital and Health Services in Madison, Ind.;
  • Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, S.C.;
  • St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, Wash.;
  • St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, N.J.; and
  • Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin, Tenn.

Combined, the EDs at these facilities have approximately 193,000 patient visits a year.

TeamHealth also initiated a contract to provide hospital medicine services to Rutherford Hospital, a 143-bed facility in Rutherfordton, N.C.

In 2008, TeamHealth initiated 31 new contracts to increase its total client base to more than 550 hospitals and physician groups.

The organization also experienced a successful year in clinician recruiting.  In all, 894 physicians – 283 of whom were recently graduated residents – and 463 nurse practitioners and physician assistants chose to join TeamHealth during 2008.

“Our growth in new customers and new affiliated physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners during challenging economic times reinforces the value of the service TeamHealth offers,” said Lynn Massingale, MD, FACEP, co-founder and executive chairman of TeamHealth. “We appreciate these votes of confidence, and we look forward to delivering on our commitments to the facilities and providers that joined us recently as well as to those that have been with us for three decades.”
