TeamHealth Adds Two New Hospital Medicine Contracts
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – (May 30, 2007) –TeamHealth's Hospital Medicine Division has signed contracts to provide hospitalist staffing and management services for Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, W.Va., and Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, Pa.
TeamHealth has been providing the emergency department physician staffing and management services for Raleigh General Hospital since 2002. As a result of this relationship, the administrative team at the 177-bed acute care hospital asked TeamHealth to help establish a hospital medicine program. Under the direction of Anthony Peter Dasaro, M.D., medical director of hospital medicine services, the hospitalist team began providing care on April 6, 2007, for the approximately 2,705 unassigned emergency patients who are admitted to the hospital annually. The program is expected to grow as the hospitalists take on the care for pre- and post-operative patients as well as patients who are referred to the program by members of the hospital's medical staff.
Lower Bucks Hospital, a 159-bed facility, has been a TeamHealth emergency department staffing and management client since 2003. After providing basic "house" coverage for the past several years, the facility approached TeamHealth to develop a full-scale hospital medicine program, which began on April 1, 2007, under the guidance of Omid Rowshan, M.D., FAAFP, medical director of the emergency medicine and hospital medicine programs. The hospital medicine program is expected to care for 1,800 admitted patients in its first year.
"These requests by our emergency department clients for us to develop hospital medicine programs speak volumes about the exceptional service provided by TeamHealth," says Stacy Goldsholl, M.D., president, TeamHealth Hospital Medicine. "There are natural synergies between the two clinical areas that can best be leveraged when you have the same provider for both emergency and hospital medicine services."
