James Rybak, MD, FACEP
President, Emeritus, Midwest Division
As president of emergency services for the TeamHealth Midwest Division, Dr. Rybak works closely with our clients to ensure healthy business relationships. He is responsible for all aspects of the division’s business, including financial solvency, physician relations, revenue generation, marketing, corporate development, and shareholder and client relations.
Dr. Rybak began his emergency medicine career in 1971, soon after returning from Vietnam, where he served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps. It was that experience that ignited in him the desire to pursue his chosen field, even though it was not recognized as a medical specialty at that time.
Dr. Rybak has practiced emergency medicine and served as medical director and chairman of a large community emergency department. In addition, he has played a central leadership role in the development and management of a large emergency medicine group practice. It is in this latter role that he has had the pleasure of seeing hundreds of colleagues find fruitful, rewarding, and satisfying careers in emergency medicine. He has witnessed and been honored to participate in the evolution of emergency medicine from its earliest days to its current prominent position in the house of medicine.
Dr. Rybak received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, and a degree in medicine, cum laude, from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his internship at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and received additional postgraduate training at the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital, Chicago, and Stanford University Medical Center, Palo Alto, California.
